OCTOBER 2015
Hi All,
By now all of you should have received your special invitation to the Nativity Play. This will be held on Sunday, 13 December 2015 at 9h00 for 10h00. Please make sure you let us know well in advance whether you will be providing a small inexpensive gift for your child/guardian or not. The Home will be providing salads, rolls, some juice and braai facilities will be made available for you to braai your meat. Please bring your own meat and beverage of choice. The Residents thoroughly look forward to this day and it makes it extra special if you are able to attend.
Our “Wish List” for the month of November is the following: To replace the waterproof bed protectors on the Residents beds.
HOME:
Bruce Zimu from Grace College came and did 5 hours a day community service for a week. The Occupational Therapist from Edendale Outreach programme worked with the Residents in the Arts & Crafts Workshop and re-padded Kegan’s casts. The Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary group dug up the vegetable garden and planted some more vegetables. They also interacted with the Residents. We welcomed back the NCF Destiny Team after they took a short break. They interacted with some of the Residents. A lady from the 31 Club visited the Home.
Precious’ parents supplied tiles, tile cement, grout and paint so that Gary could tile her little bedroom as she had destroyed the Novilon that was in there. Repairs to the hail damage have continued this month. The bottle brush tree next to the office block has been cut down due to it damaging the roof of the office. There is not too much to report on the maintenance of the Home. There were a few toilets that needed to be repaired and a few minor repairs to other things. Stardust had a burst geyser which caused ceiling damage in the stairwell. This has been repaired and the claim sent to the insurance company.
RESIDENTS:
The monthly Birthday party was held for Thabi (31), Douglas (56), Julile (28), Monica (42) and Karen Grace (30). Thank you to Parklane Superspar for donating the usual Birthday cake. Thabi had a birthday party wilth all her friends. Douglas had a birthday party which was incorporated with the Chapel Service. Alison Myburgh brought cakes for all Residents and staff as well as eats for the Residents.
One Resident, who was under the Townhill psychiatrist, became more aggressive and out of control after her medication had been changed. The doctor suggested that she be admitted to Townhill Hospital but the parents did not give their consent and requested that she go to the private psychiatric clinic, Akeso. She was admitted and stayed there for two weeks. She was then discharged after the doctor said that she was stable on the medication. Since returning she has been very unsettled and will be seeing the Townhill psychiatrist in the near future.
Dr Kirkby came to do his weekly Clinic and treated residents with varying ailments.
STAFF:
The Assistant Matron, Sheila Bouwer, handed in her resignation giving us 2 weeks’ notice. Luckily we were able to fill this post quickly and employed Sr. Daphne Dicks. Meryl came back from her leave.
